MODA HIGH SCHOOL
When designing the building, the vibrant axes of Moda Street and Cem Street were taken into account in order to create a European ambiance. The tram line running along Cem Street, together with the presence of nearby churches, as well as the café and canteen opening directly to the street, all contributed to this atmosphere.
The conference hall was placed on the south façade, in a closed zone that avoids direct sunlight. To reduce the perception of mass, the overall form was refined after modularly separating the classrooms. While the intention was to provide direct access from classrooms to the garden, placing the classrooms on the ground floor proved unsuitable for several reasons. As a solution, the garden was relocated to the roof and connected to the ground level through a ramp. Other programmatic spaces were then organized around the remaining ground-floor voids.
Vertical circulation is ensured through two main cores. Social interaction is encouraged by a large amphitheater-style staircase, while gallery voids allow visual connections across all floors. Skylights positioned on the roof distribute natural light down through these voids, illuminating the entire building.
Finally, service loading and unloading is directed to Bostan Street, which carries less traffic, minimizing disruption to the active pedestrian sides of the site.
