Burgazada Hotel
The design of this building on Burgazada was carefully developed with the aim of harmonizing with the island’s natural and cultural environment, ensuring that the intervention would not disturb its delicate texture. The settlement strategy was guided by a sensitive response to the site’s elevation differences, the orientation of light, and the panoramic angle of the sea view, resulting in an architectural composition that feels organically rooted in its context.
The program is articulated through three distinct masses: the entrance–reception block, the restaurant–exhibition block, and a cluster of 21 accommodation units. These functions are distributed across three different levels, shaped by the sloping topography. The entrance–reception area, positioned at the first elevation, establishes continuity with the height of surrounding buildings on Burgazada. It accommodates the reception, a waiting lounge, and the management office, while also directing visitors either toward the accommodation units or to the restaurant–exhibition zone.
The restaurant–exhibition block was designed to serve as both a social and cultural anchor. It contains the restaurant, kitchen, and service areas, in addition to an interactive exhibition space dedicated to the history and literary figures of Burgazada. Open to both island visitors and overnight guests, this block fosters dialogue between the cultural memory of the island and its contemporary use. The exhibition and dining experience are complemented by generous openings that frame the sea, enriching the atmosphere with daylight and visual connection to the landscape.
The accommodation units, dispersed across the three elevations, were placed to maximize exposure to natural light and sea views. Their organic arrangement allows them to nestle among existing trees and topographic contours, enhancing privacy while reinforcing the sense of integration with the natural setting. Each unit is oriented to offer guests a direct relationship with the island’s landscape, ensuring that the architecture becomes an extension of its environment rather than an imposition upon it.
In its entirety, the project emphasizes contextual sensitivity, natural illumination, and spatial fluidity. By balancing programmatic needs with the island’s unique character, the design aspires to create a place where visitors can simultaneously experience comfort, culture, and the beauty of Burgazada’s landscape.
